In order to reduce expense in the production of the Journal of Olympic History, we work with a standardized layout. For that reason we ask all authors to compose their articles in accordance with these guidelines:
- The length of the article should be within 4300 to a maximum of 6000 words or 24,000 to 35,000 characters (including footnotes and spaces).
- Exclusively English spelling and orthography are to be used.
- Where inverted commas are used, please use the double inverted comma (“).
- Capitalize proper names such as Olympic Games, IOC Member, Olympic Movement etc.
- For articles of more than one printed page in length or 800 words or 4,400 characters we require a double-spaced title in each case with a maximum of 70 characters (long articles) or 32-33 (short articles).
- Footnotes and/or references (maximum 60 to 80) should be normally listed at the end of the article.
- The manuscripts are to be sent to the Editor in word.doc format as an attachment. Photos with titles should be sent as a separate attachment.
- Tables are to be sent separately from the article. The position of the tables should be indicated in the manuscript.
- To illustrate an article attractively one to three photos or documents per printed page (!) in JPEG, TIFF or PDF format (300 dpi or more) are needed. As the Journal appears in color, illustrations or documents in color are particularly welcomed. The author is responsible for the clearance on copyright for photos.
