Triathlon, first gold medal of LA 28!

The first gold medal awarded at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles will be for triathlon, LA 28 organisers have announced, as the overall schedule was unveiled three years before the Opening Ceremony.
“I’m proud that the first medal will be awarded at Venice Beach” said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
When triathlon made its Olympic debut in 2000, it also took place on the first full day of competition after the Opening Ceremony.
There are also medals on offer in athletics which has competition on the first full day for the first time since Mexico 1968.
Other first day medals will be decided in canoe slalom, fencing, judo and rugby sevens.
Competition before the Olympic Flame is lit on 14 July will include basketball at the Inglewood Dome, handball (Long Beach Arena), waterpolo (Long Beach aquatic centre), hockey (Carson Field) and rugby sevens (Carson Stadium).
Cricket makes its first appearance since 1900 at a specially built ground in the Pomona Fairgrounds. The qualifying pathway for the tournament is expected later this year. Matches will not have “first class” status but are to be played in the shorter T20 format.
Two days of competition have been scheduled in each team sport with arrangements for the football tournaments, which always begin before the Opening Ceremony, to be revealed later.
Flag football makes its Olympic bow with preliminaries on the first full day of competition.
The debut for squash is on the same day, and lacrosse is also included.
Modern pentathlon, the sport devised by Baron Pierre de Coubertin himself, is another sport scheduled for a busy first day. It features obstacle racing as a replacement for equestrian jumping.
The new discipline of coastal rowing is scheduled for the beginning of the second week of the Games.
The aquatics programme has been moved to the second half of the Games which open on 14 July 2028 and close on Sunday, 30 July 2028.
