U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum and International Society of Olympic Historians Launch The Games History Hour: A Virtual Series

New virtual series brings Olympic and Paralympic history to global audiences through expert-led discussions

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum and the International Society of Olympic Historians are proud to introduce The Games History Hour: A Virtual Series, a new quarterly digital programme designed to engage and educate audiences around the world on the rich history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Launching May 29 at 9 a.m. Mountain Time, this free, live-streamed series will feature leading Olympic historians and experts exploring key moments, milestones, and legacies of the Games. Each session will take a deep dive into a major aspect of Games history, offering rare insights and perspectives that bring the past to life.

For more information and free advanced registration (required), visit USOPM.org/GamesHistoryHour.

“Our goal at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum is to make the history and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movements accessible to all,” said US Olympic and Paralympic Museum Chief Executive Marisa Wigglesworth.

“Through this collaboration with the International Society of Olympic Historians, we’re expanding our digital reach and giving audiences worldwide the opportunity to engage with Olympic history in a meaningful and dynamic way.”

The first installment of the series, The Role of the IOC Presidency: Leadership, Legacy, and the Future, will explore the presidency of the International Olympic Committee. The discussion will centre on the evolving role of IOC presidents throughout history, their influence on the direction of the Games, and what the future might hold under new leadership.

The session will be moderated by USOPM’s Chief Content & Integration Officer Lindsay Huban and will feature expert insights from:

  • Richard Pound – IOC Member (1978–2022), ISOH Executive Board Member, and former IOC Vice President
  • Philip Barker – Editor-in-Chief of the ISOH Journal of Olympic History and career Olympic journalist

In September (date TBA), the series will return with “Games Memorabilia,” focusing on the critical work of historians, museums, and collectors in safeguarding artifacts, stories, and traditions for future generations.

ISOH President Dr. Christian Wacker emphasised the significance of the collaboration, stating, “We greatly appreciate this opportunity for the International Society of Olympic Historians to partner with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum and its many fans and followers of the Games. Through this partnership series, anyone may enjoy a detailed dose of Olympic and Paralympic history.”

Designed for Games enthusiasts, educators, researchers, and history buffs, ‘The Games History Hour” offers a rare opportunity to learn from some of the foremost experts in the field. Each session will feature a structured discussion with pre-submitted questions from USOPM members woven into the conversation. Afterwards, the live sessions will be available for on-demand viewing  on the USOPM and ISOH website and YouTube channel.

The Games History Hour: A Virtual Series is free to attend, but advance registration is required. Participants can sign up at USOPM.org/GamesHistoryHour to receive event details and exclusive content.
