Greek documentary “Agones” now available on Olympic Channel

A landmark documentary on the Olympic Games made for Greek Television (ERT) has now been made available for streaming on the Olympic Channel.

“Agones” was made in 2021 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Olympics and explores the connections with the struggle for Greek independence.

“The eyes of the whole world are turning to Greece and the history of the Olympics” said producer and presenter Katerina Anastasopoulou.

“A warm thank you to all my ERT colleagues, to those who honored me with their knowledge in the interviews, and to all who contributed to getting our film international exposure.”

The documentary features interviews with many leading Olympic personalities including International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, recorded in the stadium at Ancient Olympia.

Hellenic Olympic Committee President Spyros Capralos also features in the documentary and experts include the late Professor Ingomar Weiler, winner of the ISOH Lifetime Achievement award last year.

The film also includes a fascinating interview with Artemis Ignatiou, choreographer of the Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremony and some remarkable aerial sequences which show Ancient Olympia from a new perspective.

It was directed with great verve by Yannis Lazaridis and features a memorable score by Dimitris Papadimitriou.

The film may be viewed directly on the Olympic Channel at:
