World Championship silver medallist Alexandros ‘AJ’ Ginnis has been named as the first Torchbearer of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Torch Relay in Ancient Olympia.

The choice was confirmed by the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) after a proposal from Olympic Torch Relay Commission President Thomas Tokas.

“Alexandros Ginnis is the top Greek in alpine skiing, having achieved the highest distinction ever by a Greek. He will represent our country in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, and we believe he will once again give his best effort,” said Tokas.

Ginnis is set to receive the Flame in the Ancient Stadium at Olympia, after the lighting Ceremony on November 26th, at the start of a Relay which is to spend nine days in Greece before it is passed on to representatives of Milano Cortina at the Handover Ceremony in Athens.

“It is a great honour for me, something that I never imagined as a child. I want to thank the Hellenic Olympic Committee for its trust and this decision,” said Ginnis who won slalom silver at the 2023 World Championships in Courchevel.

“It is a special honour for every athlete, and the memory of this moment will stay with you for life. I wish you every success in the Olympic Games, I am certain you will make us proud,” HOC President Isidoros Kouvelos told Ginnis.

The Flame is scheduled to arrive in Rome on December 6th and reach the San Siro Stadium at the climax of the Opening Ceremony on February 6th 2026.
