Morocco’s Olympic Heritage Wins ISOH Poster Prize
by Philip Barker
Mouad Benouzekri, a lecturer at the Morocco national institute of sport has been named as the winner of the 2026 ISOH Olympic History poster competition.
The competition was held in conjunction with the International Olympic Academy as part of the session for New Young Ambassadors in Olympia.
Participants were asked to produce a poster which highlighted the Olympic history and pioneers in their nation.
Benouzekri’s winning entry highlighted Morocco’s rich sporting traditions even before their Olympic debut at the Rome Games in 1960. It includes Nawal el Moutawakel and Said Aouita who both struck gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
The entry also highlights the influence of Mohamed Benjelloun a gifted sportsman who became President of the Moroccan Olympic Committee and was also co-opted onto the International Olympic Committee.
“Morocco’s Olympic story is not just a national achievement, it is a mirror of Africa’s post-colonial awakening and a testament to how geography culture and resilience can produced world changing athletes,” he said.
