by Philip Barker
The newest Olympic sport of ski mountaineering is set to take its place in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne this week as double Milano Cortina 2026 medallist Emily Harrop donates some of her equipment to the museum.
A special presentation ceremony, open to the public is to be held at the museum on Tuesday June 9 starting at 11 a.m. Those wishing to see the presentation ceremony can enter the museum precincts either from the Avenue de l’Elysée or from the lakeside entrance.
Harrop who won silver in the women’s sprint event and gold with France in the mixed team ski mountaineering is one of three French medallists from the 2026 who are expected to participate in the ceremony.
Oceane Michelon who won the women’s biathlon mass start and also gold in the 4x6km relay is also to present equipment. She will be joined by biathlete Lou Jeanmonnot-Laurent who won gold with France in both the 4x6km relay and mixed team relay, and carried the French tricolor at the Closing Ceremony in Verona.
Another flag bearer set to attend is Switzerland’s Alina Mueller who won ice hockey bronze.
Since double Winter Olympic gold medallist Katerina Witt lit a special Flame to open the Olympic Museum in 1993, it has gathered a vast collection of artefacts with donations from Olympians.
These include displays of equipment used by triple Olympic skiing gold medallist Jean Claude Killy.
Already some 300 items from the Milano Cortina Games have been donated. Some of these are expected to be put on display later in the month to coincide with Olympic Day (June 23).
